Welcome to the EDU 4526: Literacy and Society

This course focuses on the refinement of individual knowledge and skills to enhance logical reasoning and thinking, reflective judgement, and problem solving abilities. Students will interpret, analyze, and critically evaluate current and changing factors and events in society that influence the culture of schools and the educational issues that must be addressed to meet the diverse needs of students and their communities.

If parents, teachers, administrators, and policy-makers are to work diligently toward improvements in the teaching of reading, it's helpful to know and use the same language. Here is a list of commonly used terms related to reading, literacy, and reading instruction.
Literacy Glossary
The Literacy Glossary provides a collection of terms necessary to critical discussion on literacy research and instruction. It was created and curated by a team of ILA members, under the leadership of ILA's Literacy Research Panel, as a way to identify and define a shared vocabulary—a living document that could evolve to reflect and support changes in the field.

The importance of visual literacy
Our world is more visual than ever before. Millions of images created daily are steering elections, changing lives and crashing servers.
