The Journal of the Society of Christian Ethics (JSCE) is published by Georgetown University Press twice a year with a distribution of 1400. The JSCE is comprised of scholarly papers, book reviews, and advertisements. Currently, the co-editors are Mary Jo Iozzio and Patricia Beattie Jung; the book review editor is Lois Malcolm. The JSCE grew out of what was The Annual of the Society of Christian Ethics.

Recent News Stories on Religion and Ethics.

Since theological ethics is so diffuse today, since practitioners and scholars are caught up in our own specific cultures, and since our interlocutors tend to be in other disciplines, there is the need for an international exchange of ideas in Catholic theological ethics. Catholic Theological Ethics in the World Church (CTEWC) recognizes the need: to appreciate the challenge of pluralism; to dialogue from and beyond local culture; and, to interconnect within a world church.

The Encyclopedia of Religion and Society marks a unique venture in that it attempts to bring together in a single-volume compendium a state-of-the-art summary of the insights gained by the principal social sciences of religion: anthropology, psychology, and sociology. To do so is to take, admittedly, a "one-sided" approach to the religion-and-society nexus. One could perhaps consider an alternative posture, more ethical in nature-namely, one that considers what religions think about society. This would really be an encyclopedia of religious social ethics, and it is not within the scope of this project.

The purpose of the Society is to promote scholarly work in Christian ethics and in the relation of Christian ethics to other traditions of ethics, and to social, economic, political and cultural problems; to encourage and improve the teaching of these fields in colleges, universities and theological schools; and to provide a community of discourse and debate for those engaged professionally within these general fields.

The Society of Jewish Ethics is an academic organization dedicated to the promotion of scholarly work in the field of Jewish ethics, including the relation of Jewish ethics to other traditions of ethics and to social, economic, political and cultural problems.
