Using Interlibrary Loan

Did you know that Rosemont College is connected to thousands of libraries worldwide through a service called Interlibrary Loan? Using Interlibrary Loan (ILL), you can access materials far beyond what Kistler Library has in its own collections. And the best part? This service is entirely free for our patrons.

In the past, we only accepted ILL requests through a form on our website, but now with our new Discovery search, you can place ILL requests directly through our catalog.

How does ILL work?

  1. Visit our Discovery catalog: https://rosemontcollege.on.worldcat.org/Held By Library
  2. Search for the materials you want to access. By default, the system searches only what we have available at Kistler Library. However, using the menu on the left side of the page, we can expand our search results to browse "Libraries Worldwide." This is especially helpful if you can't find what you need at Rosemont.
  3. Under "Held By Library," change the selection from "Rosemont College" to one of the other options: SEPCHE, TCLC, or Libraries Worldwide. (Note: SEPCHE and TCLC are local library consortia to which Rosemont belongs. If you request a book available at a SEPCHE or TCLC Library, chances are it will get to you much faster than from somewhere else!)
  4. As you search under these expanded options, you may still see titles that say "Available, Rosemont College." But any title that isn't available at Rosemont, you can request via ILL!
  5. Click on the title of an item you want to request. When the item's page loads, you'll see a box on the right side of the page titled, "Access Options." If this item is available via ILL, you'll see a red button here reading, "Request Interlibrary Loan."
  6. Click "Request Interlibrary Loan" and fill out the proceeding form.
  7. If you can't find the item you'd like to request in our Discovery Catalog, you can always fill out the following online form: Interlibrary Loan Request Form
  8. Once you've finished filling out the request form, click submit, and the request will be sent to Library staff.
  9. You will receive an email notification when your item is ready for pickup. Staff may reach out if additional information iRequest Interlibrary Loans needed or there are any issues fulfilling your request.
  10. When your item is ready, stop by the Library's Information Desk during regular hours to check it out. The item's due date will be listed on the cover sheet affixed to the item. These due dates are set by the lending institution, not Kistler Library.

Also note: certain items, such as ebooks and ejournals, don't usually lend via ILL. When requesting articles, our partner institutions may send PDFs or printed copies. If you receive a copy of an article, it is yours to keep. Books and DVDs should be returned to Kistler Library by the due date listed. Contact library@rosemont.edu for renewals.

With a service like Interlibrary Loan, the vast array of human knowledge is available at your fingertips! Take advantage of ILL to request course materials, popular reading, or anything that Kistler Library doesn't have access to. And remember, there are no fees and no limits on your ILL requests.
